Cabinet Panel Materials: Choosing a Decorative Surface
Cabinet-panel decisions involve the complete surface assembly, not just the panel name or film colour. Substrate, decorative layer, adhesive, edge details and manufacturing process all affect whether a proposed combination meets the project's requirements. Confirm each point with the material suppliers and panel manufacturer.
Start with the application and substrate
Identify the component, the panel construction and the intended use. Share the substrate specification and whether the surface is flat, wrapped or profiled. Do not assume that one decorative film or adhesive is suitable for every board or production process.
Compare the surface requirement
Describe the required colour, pattern, texture, gloss and direction of the design. Evaluate a physical sample under the lighting and viewing conditions relevant to the finished furniture, and agree how colour and appearance will be checked during production.
Request evidence for project requirements
List any required durability, moisture, heat, cleaning, emissions or regulatory criteria in the enquiry. Ask for current documents that apply to the exact grade and finished panel assembly; a general product description is not evidence that a requirement has been met.
Prepare a useful supplier enquiry
- Panel type, substrate and component dimensions.
- Application and production process.
- Design reference and desired surface appearance.
- Required grade-specific performance or compliance documents.
- Estimated quantity, sample plan and acceptance criteria.
Review the PP decorative film range and PVC decorative film range, then confirm the specific product and assembly with TLBS before ordering.
